The Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Attah is holding another round of meeting with the expanded leadership of the Minority in Parliament over the controversial E-levy Bill. The same meeting held on January 27, 2022, ended inconclusively and was rescheduled for today.

GBC sources in Parliament say the first part of today’s meeting has also ended without any significant progress and they are expected to reconvene later in the day.

Information picked up indicates that the Finance Ministry has disclosed that the telcos have agreed to reduce their service charges by 0.25% from 1 % to 0.75%.

In view of that, the Finance Ministry has proposed to bring the E-Levy down from 1.75 to 1.5%.

However, the Minority MPs are still opposed to the proposals.

E-levy Bill to go through various stages

Meanwhile, the Bill is scheduled to be taken through the various stages on Wednesday, February 2, 2022.

In the same vein, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin is expected to travel by the weekend outside the country for a medical review.

It is not yet clear when he will be back, but there are suggestions that he could spend up to about a month before returning.
