E-Levy will be delivered in phases

By Ama Serwa Bediako

The Ghana Revenue Authority, GRA, says the implementation of the 1.5% Electronic Transfer Levy, E-Levy will be implemented in a modified phased approach.

This follows the results of an assessment carried out by the GRA to test the general readiness of some charging entities to integrate with the E-Levy Management System.

According to the GRA, its findings indicate that some of the charging entities are yet to fully integrate with the E-levy Management System.

E-Levy will be delivered in phases

This was contained in a letter to all charging entities by the Commissioner-General Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah.

The implementation of the E-Levy is due to commence from Sunday May 1, 2022.

This has caused some anxiety among the public about the additional tax to be levied.

Member of Parliament, MP for Ningo Prampram, Sam George, is reported to have said that he believes the GRA is not fully ready to roll out the E-levy, because amongst other things, the Authority has failed to engage in extensive consultations with key stakeholders on the implementation.

But the GRA has insisted that it is ready to begin collection of the new tax, despite a legal action filed at the Supreme Court by the Minority in Parliament against the passage of the law granting the collection of the tax.

Meanwhile, Deputy Finance Minister, Dr. John Kumah, says the government is almost 100% ready to implement the E-Levy from May 1, 2022.

According to him, the government’s preparedness is at a rate of 95%.

Dr Kumah noted that in the next 48 hours, the government’s preparation to see to the implementation of the Levy will be completed.
