The Senior Staff Union of the Electricity Company of Ghana, ECG says they will resist any attempt to extend the contract of their Managing Director Mr. Kwame Agyemang Budu who was due for retirement on the 17th, February, 2022.
Addressing a News Conference in Accra, the General Secretary of Public Utility Workers Union of TUC Ghana, Mr. Michael Adumata Nyantakyi accused the ECG Managing Director Mr. Kwame Agyemang Buduof of abysmal performance during his leadership.
He observed that the company is not doing well in infrastructural development and general operations.
Mr. Adumata-Nyantakyi further emphasized that failure of the MD to ensure the reimbursement of statutory deductions from staff’s salary, operation of what he termed “one man show” administration, abuse of directors and shortage of ECG poles and cables necessitated the call by the National Executive Council of the ECG senior staff to call for the MD’s contract not to be extended.
He said Mr. Agyeman Budu has finished his stewardship with ECG and the appropriate and befitting thing to do is for him to retire honorably without inviting industrial disturbances.
The Union, therefore, advised the government to appoint a new MD to replace Mr. Agyeman-Budu to help reposition the company and make it more viable.
