The Northern Development Authority (NDA) has appealed to government and development partners to come to the aid of communities affected by floods.

The authority says victims of the floods in the North East and Upper East regions urgently need mattresses, life jackets, blankets and food.

A Deputy CEO of the NDA, Hajia Lariba Abudu made the appeal in an interview with Radio Ghana during a tour of some affected communities including Nasia and Kparigu.

She said some houses have collapsed and therefore, victims will need some roofing sheets to rebuild their houses.

Meanwhile, Economic activities in parts of the Chereponi district have come to a halt due to the floods.

The Chief of Wenchiki, Abubakari Anufor in an interview with Radio Ghana’s correspondent said roads leading to the community have been washed off making it inaccessible to neighboring towns.

Wenchiki is a major trading community in the Chereponi District and attracts traders from other districts in the Upper East and Togo.

The impact of floods in the area is likely to worsen the plight of communities that experienced conflict last year.

Residents of these communities are mostly farmers but could not farm last year due to a land dispute between two ethnic groups in the area.

Chief Anufor is therefore appealing to government to help improve the road network in the area.
