The Economic Fighters League (EFL) has commended the Trades Union Congress (TUC) for its groundbreaking move in unveiling a comprehensive workers manifesto.

Announced a few days ago during an encounter with former President Mahama, TUC General Secretary, Dr. Yaw Baah, said the manifesto addresses crucial socio-economic issues with a dedicated focus on human development.

TUC unveils five-point Workers Manifesto ahead of 2024 election
The NDC was the first political party engaged, and a copy of the Workers Manifesto was presented to its flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, by the Secretary General of TUC, Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah .

In a statement shared with GBCONONLINE, the Fighter-General, Namata Serumaga-Musisi said this commendable initiative underscores the TUC’s longstanding commitment to championing the rights and interests of workers.

The statement, while praising the TUC’s comprehensive manifesto, highlights the pressing need for Proportional Representation at the Parliamentary level. This advocacy extends beyond the immediate context, resonating as a call for a more inclusive and representative democratic system.

Proportional Representation, departing from the winner-takes-all electoral approach, is gaining prominence as a mechanism to ensure diverse voices are heard in decision-making processes. The Economic Fighters League, in its commendation, underscores the potential of Proportional Representation to strengthen political representation and enhance accountability in governance.

Observers note that the advocacy for Proportional Representation reflects a broader aspiration for a political landscape where the composition of Parliament mirrors the rich diversity of Ghanaian society.

The TUC’s 5-point worker manifesto brings to the fore key social, economic, labour, energy, power, and governance matters. Since the unveiling of the workers manifesto, the TUC has begun engagements with some political parties in Ghana. As earlier stated, last week, the leadership of the TUC interacted with NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama.
