ECOWAS has officially given the green light for Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso to exit the regional bloc.
The formal exit process is set to begin on January 29, 2025, with a transitional period lasting until July 29, 2025. This decision was announced at the 66th Ordinary Summit of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State in Abuja, Nigeria.
Despite their impending departure, ECOWAS has emphasized that its doors remain open to the three countries. The Presidents of Togo and Senegal will continue their mediation efforts during the transition period.
