The National Consultation workshop for the evaluation of ECOWAS has taken place in Tamale with a call on the West African States to ensure that ECOWAS protocols are fully implemented.

Participants are of the view that despite many years of existence, there are still many issues the organization has not been able to address.

They, therefore, urged ECOWAS to involve citizens in its activities to enable them to better appreciate its contribution to the socio-economic development of the sub-region.

The workshop was jointly organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, the ECOWAS national office in collaboration with the National Development Planning Commission.

The Participants were drawn from the Academia, Civil Society Organisations, Media, Traditional Authorities, Security Agencies and the Clergy.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Charles Wiredu urged member states to ensure that the organisation brings peace and socio-economic development to the sub-region.

The Commissioner for Macro-Economic Policy and Economic Research of ECOWAS, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku spoke on ECOWAS vision 2020 and urged participants to be realistic in evaluating the organisation.
