Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has debunked claims that he masterminded the issuance of a mining lease for the extraction of lithium in his constituency.

A demonstration early last week by a pro-NDC youth group pointed to a growing anger of residents in Effutu demanding the halt of a mining contract, where the sacred Aboakyir forest – ‘Simpa’ allegedly has been sold out for lithium mining.

At an all-white street march in opposition to the claims of the demonstrators who clashed with the police, the MP for Effutu promised that he would at all times protect the natural resources of the Effutu land as long as he remained an MP.

He called out the NDC for peddling untruths.
