The Committee tasked to probe the death of two persons after soldiers allegedly opened fire on protestors at Ejura has submitted its report to the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery.

The three-member fact-finding committee made up of Justice George Kingsley Koomson, Dr.  Vladimir Antwi Danso and Juliet Amoah recommended that the Municipal Chief Executive for Ejura be removed from post and the families of the deceased and injured compensated.

The Committee also recommended the transfer of the District Police Commander and called for sanctions against the military officer who led the soldiers on the ground on the day of violence.

Minister for the Interior Ambrose Dery who received the report said the recommendations will be taken seriously and published. Also, those found culpable would be brought to book.

Reacting to the issue, Security Analyst Adib Saani expressed misgivings about the wording of the recommendations, which include the removal and transfer of persons found culpable.

He said what happened at Ejura was purely criminal, so he was expecting that the committee will rather recommend a full scale investigation into the issue, to ensure culprits are dealt with according to law.

This he believes would bring some level of closure to the affected families and community as a whole.

Security Analyst Adib Saani. Meanwhile, Governance Analyst, Fred Agyarko Oduro says he is not comfortable with some of the recommendations, especially that which calls for the removal and transfer of those found culpable.

He hoped the recommendations will be followed to the letter so that it does not end like other reports where justice was not served.
