Barima Osei Hwedie II, the Chief of Ejura Traditional Council in the Ashanti Region, has officially introduced the new Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Kwame Tawiah, to the people of Ejura in the Ashanti Region.
Ejura is a town and the capital of Ejura/Sekyedumase, a district in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. It has a settlement population of 70,807 people. History has it that Ejura is the largest maize-producing district in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
Ejura is located in the far north of the region, near the Afram River, and is connected by highways to the towns of Mampong, Yeji, and Techiman. Ejura is home to the Digya National Park/Kujani Game Reserve, among other tourist attractions.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, appointed Chief Superintendent Kwame Tawiah to lead the newly constructed Police Division in Ejura.
In an effort to acquaint the new Commander with the community, Ejurahene Barima Osei Hwedie II organised a grand durbar during the first AKwasidee celebration of the year to unveil the new Commander.
This unveiling ceremony follows the construction of an ultramodern Divisional Police Headquarters, a project spearheaded by the Ejura Traditional Council, led by Barima Osei Hwedie II, in collaboration with other partners.
During the introduction, Acting Ashanti North Regional Police Commander, ACP Jude Cobbina, highlighted Chief Superintendent Kwame Tawiah’s extensive experience gained from various positions within the police service after completing Police training school.
ACP Cobbina assured the residents that, in collaboration with the new Divisional Police Commander, they would work tirelessly to ensure the security of the local community.
Ejurahene Barima Osei Hwedie II expressed gratitude to IGP Dr. George Akufo Dampare for his ongoing support, contributing to the enhancement of security systems in Ejura.
Reflecting on Chief Sup Tawiah’s journey, ACP Prince Jude Cobbina shared, “We recruited Kwame Tawiah into the Police Service after he graduated in 1990 from the Police Training School. Throughout his career, he has served in various regions.
After passing out in 1990, he was initially posted to the Greater Accra Police Headquarters, where he dedicated seven years of service. Subsequently, from 1997 to 2000, he earned a promotion to the Public Affairs Unit in the Tema Region.
In the following years, from 2001 to 2002, Tawiah was transferred to the Ashanti Region, continuing his role in the Public Affairs Unit and overseeing media relations for the Police Service. His expertise in this area was evident.
Between 2005 and 2013, Chief Sup Kwame Tawiah took on the responsibility of the Community Police Unit. His time in this Unit showcased his exceptional ability to work effectively and establish meaningful connections with people.”
