There is an uneasy calm at Ejura in the Ashanti region following a violent clash between some irate residents of the town this morning.
An intervention by the Military helped to quel the riot and dispel the mob. Information gather d from very reliable sources, the violence was started by a group of residents EJURA in reaction to the death of their colleagues called Masaudu Shaibu.
According to the source, the late Masaudu Shaibu, a businessman who deals in maize, was invited by the Ejura Police last Friday evening, January 10, 2025, to assist them in investigating a suspected stolen mobile phone case.
He therefore, on his own volution, ride in his private motorcycle to the Police Station in honouring the police’s invitation. He was suspected to have bought the stolen mobile phone and upon his arrival at the Ejura Police Station, he was arrested to assist in the investigation.
According to the source, while the Police were changing his clothing for him to be kept in their Cell, Masaudu Shaibu reportedly informed the Police and showed them a ring on one of his fingers and explained to them that, spiritually, if he was kept in a Police Cells, he woyld not survive it.
He also reportedly told them not to remove the finger from his ring but, acting in accordance with the law, the Police ignored his request.
The source noted, that, later in the night while in the Cell, Masaudu Shaibu complained of a heart ache and was rushed by the Police to the Ejura Government Hospital where he was referred to the Asante Mampong Government Hospital for emergency medical care.
However, he was pronounced dead in arrival. On getting a tip off about the sudden death, the Zingo youth became incensed suspecting that the Police man handled him to his death.
This morning, irate youth then invaded the vicinity of the Police Station allegedly blocking all the access roads. However, sensing danger, the Police personnel on duty swiftly relocated suspects in their custody for safety before the irate residents physically attacked the personnel and later set the Police Station ablaze.
As a result, the Police Station as well as both public and private vehicles parked within the premises were burnt completely. They allegedly followed it up to the recently built Police Divisional Headquarters on the Ejura-Nkormaza road and partially damaged the facility too.
The intervention of the military helped to protect the headquarters from any further destruction and also quell the mob before calm could be restored.
Meanwhile, the Police have begun investigation to unravel the actual circumstances surrounding the violent incident and to bring all the perpetrators to justice.
