The Ellembelle Food Bank programme is expanding to cater for the needy, sick, and vulnerable group in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.
The food initiative, was created to feed the hungry when COVID-19 struck in the country.
At the time of COVID-19, some homes were left in crisis – no food or money; and others jobless. For the people of Ellembelle, it was a time to put their hands to the wheels to fend for themselves.
Hence the setting up of the Food Bank with supplies from the inhabitants in and around the world.
Readily available farms produce and processed foods were distributed to beneficiaries under a supervisory Food Bank Management Committee, made up of chiefs, assembly members, church leaders and others.
Several institutions supported the programme throughout the peak of COVID-19.
The Omanhene of Essikado Traditional Area, Nana Kobina Nketsia, who chaired the one-year anniversary celebration of the Ellembelle Food Bank, called for more support.
The brainchild of the Ellembele Food Bank, a former Minister for Petroleum, Mr. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, said the programme targeted 6,000 people and is now expanding to 12,000.
The Members of Parliament for Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira and Jomoro, Mr. Kofi Arko Nokoe and Ms. Dorcas Afo Toffey praised their colleague MP for his commitment to the people.
The MP’s plus Quantum Terminal donated some food items to support the Bank.
