Energy Commission to soon regulate solar photovoltaic installers

As part of measures to regulate and promote the use of renewable energy technologies, activities of Solar Photovoltaic installers will be regulated.

This is part of the Energy Commission’s aim to review the Electrical Wiring Regulations Act.

Board Chairman of the Energy Commission Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu said the installers will be required to take certification examinations after which successful candidates will be registered with the Commission.

This was announced at a ceremony in Accra to award certification to two hundred and eighty-eight successful candidates in Electrical Wiring.

After 10 years of the passage of the Electrical Wiring Regulations, 2011 (L.I 2008) the Energy Commission has successfully trained about 13,266 certified professionals nationwide in Electrical Wiring.

The Commission’s target is to train about 40,000 professionals by 2030.

At the 17th Electrical Wiring Certification Awards Ceremony, the Commission said the move is to sanitise the industry and reduce the number of electricity related fire outbreaks in the country.

For Ghana to achieve universal access to electricity by 2023 a Representative from the Energy Ministry, Abubakari Sulemana said it is necessary to train more electricians professionally.

Miriam Awanor won the National best Female Candidate and Emmanuel Tetteh Coffie also won the overall best candidate.

The Candidates were presented with a certificate and tool box.

The Energy Commission hopes to train about 800 candidates in the next certification course.
