The Minister for Energy and Green Transitions, John Jinapor, has refuted allegations that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is being sold.
During a working visit to the West African Gas Pipeline Company Station in Tema on February 21, he clarified that while the government is considering private sector involvement, there are no plans to sell ECG.
He explained that the objective is to enhance the power distributor’s efficiency rather than relinquish ownership.
“There have been reports and statements from individuals who should know better, claiming that ECG is being sold. These claims are completely false,” he stated.
Mr. Jinapor stressed that introducing private sector participation would help curb losses, boost revenue, and ensure that electricity remains affordable for consumers.
“We are not selling ECG, but we want private sector participation to improve efficiency, reduce losses, and strengthen revenue generation so we can meet our financial obligations,” he added.
