Importers and exporters have been advised to enhance their credit worthiness to be able to take advantage of credit facilities available in banks and other financial institutions.
This is part of efforts to ensure importers and exporters make relevant and timely business decisions in order not to reel under the negative effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic and the Russia Ukrainian War.
The Head of the Freight and Logistics Department of the Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA), Mr. Fred Asiedu-Dartey said the Authority speaking at a forum for stakeholders in the shipping and logistics organised by Ecobank, started that, due to the global economic challenges that is affecting Ghanaian shippers the GSA has begun series of sensitization among its Regional Shipper Committees on credit facilities they can take advantage of.
He was quick to add that the credit worthiness of the shipper would be key in accessing the facilities and as a result shippers should be mindful of their repayment history and credit score at the Bank of Ghana.
He also advised them to adapt to the emerging trends in financial transactions such as internet banking in making shipping related payments to save the time and cost involved in their operations.
He noted that deepening the knowledge of shippers on the credit facilities available will enhance their operations to increase the volumes of import and export to strengthen the Cedi.
The forum was targeted at port terminal operators, shipping lines, freight forwarders and logistics companies among others to raise awareness on the benefits of patronising the bank’s self-service digital platforms in making shipping related payments.
