The General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P) Church, Ghana has inducted Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. (Rtd) Bliss Agbeko as the new Moderator.
He is the 14th Moderator of the Church and the third since the adoption of the General Assembly concept by the Church 12 years ago. Rt. Rev. Agbeko succeeds the late Very Rev. Seth Agidi whose tenure ended last year and will steer the affairs of the Church for the next six years.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. (Rtd) Bliss Agbeko who hails from Adaklu in the Volta Region was born in May 1963.
He was ordained a minister of the Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P) Church, Ghana on 22nd August 1992 and commissioned as an officer of the Ghana Armed Forces on 20th August 1999.
He has served in various capacities within the 29 years that he has been a minister of the Church.
At his induction ceremony in Ho, the immediate past acting Moderator of the E.P Church Ghana, Rev. Emmanuel Attu said the Church is in serious crisis and needs urgent reforms to overcome financial challenges and growing indiscipline among some of its agents and members.
He, therefore, charged the new Moderator to introduce vigorous reforms that will instill discipline in the church and revive its income-generating ventures to mobilize enough funds for evangelism.
The new Moderator Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. (Rtd) Bliss Agbeko urged members to rally behind him in his quest to initiate changes that will enable the church to uphold its mandate of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ and services to humanity. He pledged to empower the various ministry wings of the church and to use modern technology in the church’s activities.
The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Letsa encouraged the new Moderator to build upon the legacy and solid foundation laid by the forebears of the Church. He entreated the church to strengthen its partnership with government especially in the areas of education and health.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. (Rtd) Bliss Agbeko holds a doctorate degree in Ministry from Erskine Theological Seminary in the United States of America.
He is married with four children.
