The European Union Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Irchad Ramiandrasoa Razaaly, has paid a courtesy visit to the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur, at the Ministry in Accra. The meeting focused on fostering collaboration for sustainable fisheries and marine conservation.

Ambassador Razaaly congratulated Hon. Emelia Arthur on her appointment and reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s initiatives in promoting sustainable fisheries. “The EU has long been a partner in Ghana’s fisheries sector, and we are eager to deepen this cooperation for mutual benefit,” he stated.

Hon. Emelia Arthur expressed her gratitude for the visit, emphasising the importance of international partnerships in advancing Ghana’s blue economy. She said, “It was a pleasure meeting H.E. Razaaly and his team. Strong collaborations like this are vital for achieving our goals in marine conservation and sustainable resource management.”

She stressed the significance of the EU’s support, noting, “Together, we are charting a path toward a more resilient and sustainable future for Ghana’s marine and coastal resources.”

The meeting also underscored ongoing efforts to address illegal fishing activities that have earned Ghana an EU Yellow Card. Hon. Emelia Arthur reiterated her commitment to resolving these issues, saying, “We must align our fisheries regulations with international standards to protect our industry and ensure its contribution to Ghana’s economy continues.”
