The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has announced the 40th edition of the National Farmer’s Day, to be held on Friday, November 8 in the Greater Region.
This year’s theme, “Building Climate-Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security,” highlights the nation’s commitment to adopting agricultural practices that effectively address the challenges posed by climate change.
In a statement released on Wednesday 23, the Ministry said as part of the lead-up to the celebration, Ghana will host a 5-day National Agricultural Fair, ‘Agrifest’ Ghana 2024, from 4th to 8th November, 2024.
“This event will showcase Ghana’s rich agricultural heritage and serve as a vibrant platform for knowledge exchange and innovation, bringing together farmers and stakeholders across the country.”
The National Farmers’ Day celebration will culminate in the National Awards Night Ceremony on 8th November, where President Akufo-Addo will honour outstanding farmers in 16 award categories.
These prestigious awards include the overall National Best Farmer, National Best Livestock Farmer, National Best Female Farmer, National Best Physically Challenged Farmer, among others, to recognize the invaluable contributions of farmers to the nation’s agriculture sector.
Given the urgency of addressing climate change, the focus on building Climate-resilient agriculture is crucial to ensuring food security and sustainability in Ghana.
The Ministry is inviting all Ghanaians to join in celebrating farmers, whose resilience and dedication are essential to the nation’s food security and economic growth.
This year’s event has been moved to November due to the upcoming 2024 general election.
