Final Islamic prayers for late Hajia Ramatu Aliu Mahama

The Final Islamic Prayers, the Adua, have been performed for the late Hajia Ramatu Aliu Mahama, wife of the late Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama, at the forecourt of the State House in Accra.

The solemn prayer session is in remembrance of the dead and to ensure a clear path to heaven for the departed soul of Hajia Ramatu.

In attendance was President Akufo-Addo and first Lady Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and his Wife Samira, former President John Agyekum Kufour, the National Chief Imam Sheikh Osman Nuhu, Ministers of State and the members of the New Patriotic Party, NPP.

The wife of the late former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama, Hajia Ramatu Aliu Mahama passed away on Thursday 7th April, 2022. She was 70 years.

She and her husband were the second couple of the land from 2001 to 2009, under the J.A Kufuor administration.

She was a former Educationist who rose to become Assistant Director until she retired in 2000. While her husband was Vice President, Hajia Ramatu, championed for women’s participation in decision making and empowered the underprivileged through her social intervention projects.

She passed on at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Family and sympathisers at the DUA or the Final Islamic Prayers in her remembrance, included  the President of the republic Nana Akufo-Addo and his wife, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife, former President J. A. Kufuor, the Chief of Staff, the  national Chief Imam Sheikh Osman Nuhu Shaributu, Ministers of State Representatives of the former President John Mahama and traditional leaders delegated from the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu, the Ya Naa Abubakari Mahama and traditional leaders from Tumu. In the Eulogy the Spokesperson for the National Chief Imam Sheikh Aremiyao Shuaibo, said humanity must see life as a responsibility and must live to please God.

In the biography, a sister Zalia Elaga Zenpare, described the late Hajia Ramatu Aliu Mahama as a loving mother.

The four children left behind in a tribute read by Halim Aliu Mahama described their mother as the mother of many.

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party Mr. John Boadu, said she distinguished her duty as a wife of a former Vice President.

The State’s Tribute was read by Deputy Information Minister Fatimatu Abubakar.

The late Educationist was buried on 10th April, 2022 at Kapolhin in Tamale in accordance with Islamic tradition.
