A fire outbreak at the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) in Tamale has caused significant damage to transformers, insulators, and other essential equipment.
The Ghana National Fire Service responded swiftly, deploying fire tenders from both the metropolitan station and the hospital to contain the blaze.
Public Relations Officer of the Fire Service, Baba Hudu, stated that the team arrived on time and managed to control the fire.
“We immediately dispatched two fire tenders, but due to the intensity of the fire, they were insufficient to fully extinguish it. As a result, we had to request additional water supply from the water company,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Corporate Communications Director of NEDCo, Maxwell Kotoka, has assured the public that power distribution in the area remains unaffected.
He clarified that the fire impacted a warehouse used for storing company equipment and materials.
“The warehouse itself has lost power supply, but we are working to resolve the situation. At this point, no external institutions have been affected,” he noted.
Despite the losses, NEDCo has assured residents that electricity supply will continue without disruption.
