The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, KMA, says it will not rescind its decision to stop the use of tricycles in the Metropolis despite yesterday’s clash with riders and Police Officers.

Six Police Officers were on Monday August 7, 2023 injured when the Assembly deployed them to arrest tricycle riders whose activities flout the KMA’s by-laws.

Public Relations Officer of KMA, Nana Afia Konadu, said the injured officers are responding to treatment while riders who were arrested following the disturbances have been arraigned before court. She does not agree with critics who say the move will affect the livelihoods of the riders.

Ms Konadu said the move to curb the Metropolis of recalcitrant vehicles will apply not only to tricycles but heavy-duty trucks that park along the shoulders of the road, causing traffic and inconvenience to road users.
