The Member of Parliament for Ketu South, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has toured some of the flooded communities in her constituency to ascertain the true state of the situation.

Several communities within Klikior, Somey, and Aflao Traditional Areas are submerged in flood waters for about two weeks now following heavy rains, rendering hundreds of residents homeless and in some cases resulting in the closure of Schools and Churches.

The MP, accompanied by some of the Constituency Executives, over the weekend, toured heavily affected areas to console hundreds of victims who still struggle to deal with stagnant waters in their homes and their way to the market and farms.

Her first point of call was the Viepe Electoral Area in Aflao, and then to several communities within Agbozume North and South Electoral Areas under Somey Traditional Area, then to Dagbakope in the Kpoglu Electoral Area in Klikor, where she sympathized with one, Samuel Dagba whose home was destroyed by a big tree uprooted by the storm.

Abla Dzifa Gomashie then moved to Hatsukope Primary School and its environs which have equally been affected by spillage from the Alogui lagoon, making it impossible for students to cross over to school, alongside several residents who have been chased out of their homes by the merciless floods.

The MP concluded her tour in other affected communities behind the Diamond Cement factory and Ahiatakukope all in the Duta electoral area of Aflao, which were also flooded due to the overflow of streams from the Republic of Togo.

In all, she empathized with the affected residents and urged the Government through the Ministries of Works and Housing,  Gender, Children and Social Protection, Roads and Highways, as well as the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and Ketu South Municipal Assembly to assist the affected communities and proactively find a sustainable solution to the recurrent flooding menace.

Earlier, some food items were donated to some affected elderly people in Agbaweame.

This was contained in a statement issued by Bright Dzila Ketu, South Constituency Communication Officer on Monday, 12th June 2023.

The MP also appealed to corporate Ghana, philanthropists, Civil society Organizations, and the general public to come to their aid.

The latest report suggested that many homes in Agbozume particular are underwater making life difficult for the residents.

Many Kete/Kente Wavers have stopped weaving and traders are struggling to access the market and other business centers since motorbikes are charging higher fees before, riding through the mini but scattered dams on the roads linking the major market situated on Aflao-Accra Highways.
