A lawyer and former Minister of State, Alexander Abban says raw materials should be made available before the operationalizing of the Komenda Sugar Factory.

Speaking on the GTV Breakfast Show, Mr. Abban stated that, there needs to be a large scale of Sugar Plantation to propel the re-start of the factory, and for it to run at full capacity.

‘’Government should rather invest more in raw materials for the Komenda Sugar factory to operate effectively’’, he noted.

“The government should be certain that there are raw materials before the factory starts to operate “, he added.

More farmers in the area should also be encouraged to peruse, Sugar Cane Farming.

The Komenda Sugar Factory was built in 1964 by Kwame Nkrumah. It was established to reduce the importation of sugar. But the factory has not been in operation for about 30 years due to mismanagement.

In 2016, Former President John Manama brought hope to Ghanaians by commissioning the factory but it did not operate effectively.

The current government of Nana Akufo Addo has however promised Ghanaians that it would ensure that the Sugar Factory gets back on its feet.
