Former Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Ekow Spio Garbrah and his entourage were Friday, June 26 denied entry into the revenue office of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, GPHA, by security personnel of the Authority during a fact finding mission to UNIPASS.
The incident saw Clearing Agents hooting at the security personnel when the Ranking Member on Finance in Parliament, Isaac Adongo and the NDC’s Communication Director, Sammy Gyamfi were addressing the media.
Speaking to journalists at the Tema Port, Dr Spio Garbrah expressed worry that Ghana being the headquarters of AFCTA is not setting good examples in the area of trade facilitation.
He urged the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Finance and Transport to come together to urgently address the shortfalls in the new system.
The newly introduced clearing system continues to receive serious criticism from freight forwarders who are unhappy with the delays and miscommunication they endure in the clearing process.
