Ghanaian lawyer and politician Freddie Worsemao Armah Blay shared a gripping account of his time in prison during the PNDC era. Speaking on the GTV Breakfast show on January 6, 2024, Mr. Blay revealed the harsh realities he faced during his one-year incarceration.

His experience was marked by tragedy, as he witnessed fellow inmates dying before his eyes at the Ho Prison. Despite the dire circumstances, he credited his time in prison with building his strength and resilience. “Being in prison for a year built and made me strong,” he said.

The former Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) also shared details about the meager diet he survived: gari and shito. Mr. Blay spent time in three prisons, with Usher Fort offering the best conditions.
