The Lawra Assembly of Christ Apostolic Church International (CACI) in conjunction with an NGO, Period Mate has distributed free sanitary pads to teenage girls in Lawra.
The partnership for the donation exercise aimed at helping underprivileged young girls to manage their menses in a more hygienic way was sponsored by International Business Sales and Services Corporation (IBSS Corp.), headquartered in Silver Spring, USA.
GBC’s Emmanuel Mensah-Abludo reports that the Church made the presentation valued at more than GHC 20,000 as part of its Easter activities to preach the gospel.
The over 250 beneficiaries were selected from four suburbs of Lawra which are Ambur, Gonperi, Dikpe and Yikpee.
The Area Pastor, Christ Apostolic Church International, Wa Mission, Reverend Samuel Tei Narteh who gave a word of exaltation at the ceremony advised young girls not to allow themselves to be deceived by men.
They [young girls] should not allow themselves for the young guys to deceive them, to spoil them but rather they should focus on what they will gain tomorrow. The future is better than today so they should concentrate on their studies and they should be obedient to their parents. Wherever they will find themselves, they will respect the elderly and that will help them in future. This is my little advice to young ladies.
The Presiding Elder of the Lawra Christ Apostolic Church International, Elder Albert Owusu-Boateng indicated that though the Lawra branch is not a big Church, it has upscaled its humanitarian activities after a research as a symbolic emulation of Christ’s sacrifice for humanity.
“We focused on 250 girls and we have been able to serve all of them and even more. As a Church we wanted to demonstrate the love that our Lord Jesus gave us by showing a symbolic one [love] to the needy in our Society. We did some research and came to the realization that it is a very big issue in this community to the extent that some of the girls even during that period of the month [menstruation], are unable to go to school.”
The Chief of Yikpee, Naa Gbedaa Anthony Ferrah, observed that the Church has identified a very important human need which many a time, is not well catered for because of ignorance and expressed appreciation to the Church and its partners for the free sanitary pads distribution initiative.
A representative of International Business Sales and Services Corporation (IBSS Corp.), Ibrahim Ali, stated that IBSS is extremely pleased about the partnership between Period Mate and Christ Apostolic Church International to positively impact the lives of children in Ghana in general and those in Lawra in particular.
He observed that IBSS believes that every good deed deserves support and as such decided to join Period Mate and CACI to reach out to the underprivileged young girls.
Mr Ali pledged that IBSS will continue its sponsorship to Period Mate in order to give further support to others.
A beneficiary, Miss Nancy Kuutuore of Yikpee M/A Junior High School was full of gratitude for the donation.
“I feel very excited for this gift and I am also thanking them for this gift. May God bless them and help them to get more for us.”
