The Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Greater Accra (GA) Region have signed a memorandum of understanding with the African Development Bank under the Greater Accra Sustainable Sanitation and Livelihoods Improvement Project (GASSLIP) in Accra.

The $53 million project is being rolled out in five years.

It aims to increase access to safe and sustainable sanitation to the residents of the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA), targeting the urban and peri-urban poor residents.

It will provide domestic and municipal level sanitation infrastructure, support skills development and livelihood improvements, and enhance the capacity of sanitation service providers and the participating local government authorities to better deliver and manage climate-resilient sanitation services within GAMA.

The Dean of the MMDCEs in Greater Accra and MCE for Adentan, David Nii-Noi Aduamuah tells Radio Ghana that the major challenge facing various assemblies is the prevention of people from dumping household waste into public bins which are meant for pedestrians.

The project Coordinator of GASSLIP, Stephen Ackon, said adequate measures have been put in place to ensure the aim of the project is achieved.
