Actor, Oscar Provençal has stated that the illegal mining popularly known as ‘Galamsey’ facing the country will not end anytime soon.
According to him, he would be happy to see more arrests and prosecutions in relation to the suspects involved in the menace.
‘’Illegal mining is a major issue in most countries as well so we have to be principled at all stance no matter the government in power,’’ he said.
Speaking on the GTV Breakfast Show, Oscar raised questions about the effectiveness of current efforts to combat galamsey, asking if we were arresting and prosecuting the right people, citing that if the youth were provided jobs, it would be inexcusable for them to indulge in ‘galamsey’.
The conversation falls on the back of the government continuing to grapple with the galamsey menace, which has caused severe environmental and health implications for the country.
