The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation’s Television has been adjudged the Best Democracy and Peace Building Television Station, at the 24th edition of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) awards held on Saturday, at the Kempinski Gold Coast City in Accra.
The State Broadcaster, (GBC), was also adjudged the best in Radio and TV programming in Ga, Ewe and Dagbani. while, some of its regional branches – URA Radio, Radio Upper West were the best in their various regions.
Also GBC’s Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng and Janet Abena Quainoo won the Best Court and Crime Reporter, the Best Rural Reporter- (Electronic), respectively.
The ceremony climaxed the 70th Anniversary celebration of the GJA, which is on the theme, “Democracy, Freedom and Independence of the Media in Ghana.”
At the end of the awards, a Journalist with the Graphic Communications Group Limited, Doreen Hammond, emerged the overall best Journalist for the year 2018.
In addition to winning Journalist of the Year, Ms. Hammond, who is the Editor of Junior Graphic also picked the Best Columnist Award of the Year.
The special guest of honour was the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Also present at the ceremony were, the Senior Minister, Yaw Safo Marfo, a Deputy Information Minister, Pius Enam Hadzide and the Tourism Minister, Barbara Oteng Gyasi.
