Eighty-Four (84) years ago, the Colonial Governor popularly known as the Sunshine Governor, Sir Arnold Hodson made his historic statement to launch broadcasting in the then Gold Coast from a wired relay station code-named Radio “ZOY”.
It was manned by eight technicians and housed in a small Bungalow on 9th Road at Ridge in Accra. Broadcasting first begun in four Ghanaian languages namely Fanti, Twi, Ga, Ewe and later Hausa.
Radio “ZOY” has grown to present Ghana Broadcasting Corporation with regional FM stations, community Radio stations, digital television channels, ONLINE and Training Colleges. It still remains the leading broadcasting station with a nationwide reach and a mandate to do public broadcasting.

In a goodwill message, the Acting Director-General of the Corporation, Mr, Peter Opoku-Mensah, said GBC has achieved a lot over the years and the Corporation has come this far because of the toil of selfless workers.
