GBC launches heritage month to promote Ghanaian culture and values

Cultural Heritage is the legacy of physical artefacts and intangible attributes of a society that is inherited from past generations. In line with this, the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, GBC will be launching the Heritage Month to promote this agenda.

Speaking to Radio Ghana, the Director of Corporate Affairs, Mamle Asare emphasized that the initiative is to sensitise the public especially the staff of the Corporation in acknowledging the Ghanaian Culture and values.

The month of March dubbed ‘Heritage month’ has been dedicated to Ghanaians to return to their roots to acknowledge the indigenous ways of doing things.

In 2004, the government of Ghana launched the “National Friday Wear Programme” which seeks to project the unique Ghanaian identity through the extensive use of local fabric and designs as business wear.

As such, staff of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, have resorted to wearing African prints and making local delicacies to promote the Ghanaian culture throughout the month.

The Director of Corporate Affairs at GBC, Madam Mamle Asare, indicated that the decision is to encourage Ghanaians to patronize made in Ghana goods, cuisine and tourist sites.

Madam Asare entreated GBC staff to embrace the heritage month to portray Ghana’s rich culture and values to the world.

The launch will be graced by the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and the Minister of Tourism Madam Catherine Afeku.
