The Director-General (DG) of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Prof. Amin Alhassan, has revealed that plans are far afoot to replace its Long Service Awards (LSA) for staff of the Corporation with an Enhanced Provident Fund scheme.

Addressing participants at a GBC’s stakeholder meeting held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, Prof. Alhassan explained that one of the outstanding challenges that had dogged GBC for some time now was the fulfillment of its commitment to its retirees, commonly called Long Service Awards (LSA).

“The good news is that we have, in the last two months, paid all outstanding LSA to retirees. All accrued benefits under the LSA clause in the Collective.

Agreement to serving staff will also be paid, hopefully soon. The payments are against a backdrop of an agreement with the PSWU to delete the clause on LSA from the Collective Agreement after paying all outstanding. What this means is that, when we pay up what is due serving staff, the LSA will cease to be a benefit scheme. In its place, Management and Labour agreed to an Enhanced Provident Fund contribution by the employer,” he told the gathering.
