The Management and Staff of GBC Sunrise FM in Koforidua have visited Newmont Golden Ridge Limited at New Abirem in the Birem North Municipality of the Eastern Region to familiarise themselves with their activities.

The mine and familiarisation tour is to help strengthen and foster the already existing relationship between the two organisations and also learn and share ideas from each other.

The General Manager of Newmont Golden Ridge Limited, Charles Bissue, who welcomed the team, noted that his outfit recognises GBC Sunrise FM as one of its key media partners in the Eastern Region and that there is the need to strengthen the existing relationship between the two for fruitful partnership.

Mr. Bissue commended GBC for being one of the few media institutions in the country that provides the public with authentic, credible, balanced, and objective reports. He said that Newmont continues to address concerns related to youth employment in the host communities through skills enhancements and training.

The Acting Regional Director of GBC Sunrise FM, Joseph Adjei, commended Newmont Golden Ridge Limited for the kind of discipline and mode of operations that exist in the organization. He reiterated that if such discipline and behaviour towards work can be replicated across the country, Ghana will have advanced in development better than what the country is currently experiencing.

He advised the staff of GBC Sunrise FM and Ghanaians in general, especially those in public institutions, to renew their mindset to help advance the progress of their organisations and the country as a whole. He reiterated the need to build strong institutions and let the systems work.

The Communication Manager and External Relations Officer of Newmont Golden Ridge Limited, Derick Adogla, mentioned the five core values of the company as safety, integrity, sustainability, inclusion, and responsibility.

He opined that as part of their reforestation commitment, they have planted over 303,000 trees.

Staff of GBC Sunrise FM were taken to the drilling, milling, transporting, production, tilling and concurrent reclaiming areas. The team was also taken through the responsible mining cycle, such as permit, exploration, community hearing and construction, mining, processing, reclamation, and closure.
