The Public Service Workers Union (PSWU), has assured workers of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), barring any unforeseen circumstances, their scrapped allowances will be restored and reflect in their salaries for the month of August 2023.
Speaking to GBC’s Ashanti Regional Correspondent, Nicholas Osei-Wusu, on the fringes of the ongoing Ashanti Regional Delegates Conference of the PSWU in Kumasi, the General Secretary, Bernard Adjei, noted that, after a restoration of the allowances, the way would then be paved for the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to cause a discussion about the way forward about any concerns the Commission may have with those allowances.
The PSWU General Secretary commended the National Labour Commission and the concerned ministries for their swift intervention in the matter to maintain industrial harmony at the public broadcaster.
The General Secretary warned that the Union will not under any circumstance accept the actions and inactions of any individual, group, or organisation that attempts to take away the rights, opportunities, and privileges of workers, such as in the case of the unilateral action against GBC workers’ allowances.
Mr. Adjei also commended the leadership of the GBC Divisional Union and the PSWU national officers for their swift reaction to the decision of the FWSC.
He used the opportunity to emphasise the need for all unionised workers to at all times remain united in support of their leadership to champion their welfare and also stand for them in times of unfriendly labour practices and workplace abuses.
