The incoming Director-General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, (GBC) Professor Amin Alhassan, says if the Corporation is going be able to pursue its public service mandate without restraint, there is a need for a complete retooling of the Corporation.

Professor Alhassan said GBC remains the only media station in Ghana with pre-existing infrastructure to reach all Ghanaians across the country.

Speaking with the Acting Upper West Regional Director of GBC, Lawrence Tetteh, Professor Amin expressed the hope that his tenure would be characterized by the redevelopment of the Corporation to meet modern standards with regard to practice and infrastructure.

Professor Amin Alhassan who took Office as Principal of the University for Business and Development Studies on September 1, 2018, is expected to take office as Director-General of GBC on October 1, 2019.

Professor Amin explained although he is yet to assumed office, he is aware of some of the challenges of the Corporation including old equipment and the encroachment of GBC land at Wa and other areas across the country.

Professor Alhassan said the future of GBC is great looking at the talents, skills and professionalism within the Corporation.

“The future for GBC is great in many ways and I believe that before the end of my term we would not only talk about [GBC] Radio Upper West but Upper West TV. It is possible to retool GBC,” he said.

Professor Alhassan continued to say “GBC is the leading media organization in the country. It has the capacity, the ability and the reach to broadcast to all Ghanaians. It is the only media organization with that capacity. It is the only station also, with and exclusive public service mandate”.

The Acting Upper West Regional Director of GBC, Lawrence Tetteh wished the new director general well in his new job. Mr Tetteh used the opportunity to ask for assistance to address the needs of Radio Upper West.
