The Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD) has successfully conducted assessment sessions for applicants vying for spots in the 2025 cohort of the We Can Work Academy, a flagship initiative designed to equip young persons with disabilities with the skills and confidence needed to thrive in the world of work.

This was organised in partnership with Light for the World and the African Disability Forum (ADF). The assessments were held across two regions: the Greater Accra Region from April 2 to 4, and the Eastern Region from April 7 to 8, 2025.

During the sessions, applicants were evaluated based on their availability, prior vocational or educational experience, and overall readiness to engage with the Academy’s programmes. Each assessment day began with an orientation session led by key staff, including the ‘We Can Work’ Programme Manager, Academy Coordinator, and Monitoring and Evaluation Officer. They introduced the participants to the programme’s objectives, the Academy’s structure, and the purpose behind the assessments.

The We Can Work programme is an inclusive initiative that supports young people with disabilities through life skills development, job readiness training, entrepreneurship, and technical education. The initiative also aligns with the Mastercard Foundation’s Young Africa Works strategy by ensuring disability inclusion is embedded across employment and training opportunities.

Beyond practical training, the programme fosters leadership among youth with disabilities, empowering them to influence policy, engage in advocacy, and play active roles in civic and organisational spaces.
