The National Youth Authority in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP, has launched the Ghana Chapter of the YouthConnekt.
The initiative seeks to provide an African context approach in addressing issues of youth unemployment.
The event which took place at the University of Ghana, Legon is in line with the UNDP Youth Strategy and the Global Programme on Youth Empowerment.
Director of United Nations Volunteerism (UNV), East and Southern Africa, Njoya Tikum, said Ghana is a major player in Africa and cannot be left out of the YouthConnekt Africa programme.
Chief Executive of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovative Programme, John Kumah at the event said that Ghana has the needed intellectuals for business ideas, however, systematic structure challenges have not helped to tap the expertise.
YouthConnekt is an initiative that was launched in 2012 by the Rwanda Ministry of Youth and ICT in collaboration with the UNDP.
In 2017, Ghana was invited to be part of countries, implementing the initiative which included Rwanda, Liberia, Congo, Sierre Leone and Uganda.
YouthConnekt Ghana will provide the platform for training and building the skills of young people seeking formal employment or becoming entrepreneurs. It will connect the youth of Ghana for Continental Transformation through Innovation and Creativity.
Some youth startuppers had the opportunity to exhibit their products at the launch of the Ghana YouthConnekt.
