Youngman who died at Ashaiman during Covid-19 lockdown attempted to wrest weapon from Military Officer- Defense Minister

The Minister for Defense, Dominic Ntiwul, has disclosed that an initial investigation by the Military Police has revealed that a young man who died at Ashaiman during the lockdown period in March 2020, died in an attempt to wrest a weapon from a Military Officer who was part of a Joint Military Police Team tasked to enforce the lockdown.

The Minister was responding to a question from Ashaiman MP, Ernest Norgbey.

Mr. Ntiwul said the Police are however doing a thorough investigation into the matter.

Background

During the Covid -19 lockdown in 2020, Some officials had a difficult time controlling citizens. Reports made the rounds that a soldier had gunned down a civilian during lockdown operation at Ashaiman.

Following that the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), issued a statement that it was investigating the death of a civilian who was shot by a Military man at Ashaiman in Accra.

The incident, which GAF said happened by accident, occurred on Sunday, April 5, 2020.
