Ghana marks World Teacher Day with Ghana Teacher Prize 2018

Today is World Teacher’s Day. In Ghana the day is being marked with a Ghana Teacher Prize Award Ceremony at the Presbyterian Boys’ SHS, Legon in Accra.

In attendance is Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who will crown the National Best Teacher for 2018.

The National Teacher Awards have been rebranded ‘Ghana Teacher Prize’ with an international standard as the new benchmark

The theme for this year’s celebration is: “The right to education means the right to a qualified teacher”.

The most outstanding teacher would take home a three-bedroom house plus a GH¢5,000 endowment fund, the first runner-up would receive a 4×4 Pickup while the second runner-up received a saloon car.

        

Other prizes include fridges, deep freezers, laptops, television sets, branded ‘T’-shirts, books/pens, endowment fund and cash prizes.

The World Teacher’s Day is a day created by UNESCO to show appreciation for teachers all over the world and to assess and help teachers to improve. It is also a day that is used to look at the unique issues that directly affect teachers.
