The New Juaben South Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Fire Service, ADO2 Richard Steve Akossah has hinted of a house to house campaign across all the 33 districts and municipalities in the Eastern Region.
This initiative is to help educate the public on how to deal with fire and the appropriate steps to take in preventing the outbreak of fire as the harmattan season is drawing closer.
ADO2 Akossah who was speaking on the Development Agenda Segment of GBC SUNRISE FM Morning Show “Ade Akyi Abea”, advised the public to be careful with how they handle fire as well as electrical gadgets during this season as the harmattan is slowly crippling in to avoid fire outbreaks in their various homes.
He explained that the long usage of gas cylinder holes poses a threat to the individual’s safety. Hence, the holes, according to him, should be changed every two years.
ADO2 Akossah stressed the importance of changing old gas cylinders as well since the possibility of it exploding as a result of leakages is high. He had this to say about re-coating of gas cylinders.
ADO2 Akossah also encouraged the public to regularly service their burners or dispose of them off as it can also cause explosions as well since some leakages emanating from the kitchen may be from the burner.
He, however, pleaded with the market women to avoid trading on the pathways meant for fire fighters to extinguish fire when there is an outbreak in the market.
ADO2 Akossah further mentioned the lack of vehicles and fire tenders as some challenges bedeviling his outfit when they are called to extinguish fire during an outbreak as well as outreach programmes.
The public can call the Eastern Regional fire command on 0342294051 and the New Juaben South Municipal Fire Command on 0342292879 for immediate assistance when there is a fire outbreak within the region or municipality.
