President Akufo-Addo says the emerging trend of Coup d’etat in West Africa will never be accepted by the International Community. He has offered the support of Ghana to help the countries affected by the Coup to return to democratic rule.

President Akufo Addo was speaking at the inauguration of the newly established Foreign Service Institute (FSI) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration. He urged the Institute to nurture well-rounded diplomats who can go out and protect the interests of the country in the global diplomatic space.

Following a rationalization exercise in 2006 allowing some Ministries to be reorganized, the Ministry of Regional Cooperation, and NEPAD was merged with the then Ministry of Foreign Affairs, resulting in the change of name to Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.

Properties inherited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration from the defunct Ministry of Regional Cooperation and NEPAD included an uncompleted office building located at South Legon.

The Foreign Ministry on the directive of the then Minister for Foreign Affairs and now President of the country, decided to convert the facility into a Foreign Service Institute at a cost of 4.7 million dollars.

President Akufo-Addo said international diplomacy is becoming increasingly complex, adding that the Institute has come at an opportune time to support Ghana’s quest to nurture diplomats who can navigate the sophisticated diplomatic space.

He noted that diplomats are at the forefront of shaping the new world order, and expressed optimism that with the FSI, some great talents will be nurtured to position Ghana to stay deeply connected to this emerging new world order.

Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, was proud to witness the completion of the FSI building during her time as the Sector Minister.
