Ghana has marked its 65th Independence Day with a call on citizens to remain patriotic and build upon what the forbearers have done.

The celebration was with the theme” working together, bouncing back together”.

Some Ghanaians have been sharing their views on Ghana for 65 years.

“We appeal to all celebrants and the public to obey the rules and regulations put in place . We entreat everyone to consider their personal security as a guiding principle for the celebration”.

Social media trends also show varied views on the progress the country made since independence. However, GBCNews has been speaking to some Ghanaians about progress made post independence.

One Tempest Kabalma from Adabraka said she’s not going anywhere. “I am not celebrating Independence day because there is nothing to celebrate. We are 65 and there is nothing to account for that. The economy is still going down, and nothing is working properly. Every institution is going on strike. People are not in their right state of mind to go under the hot sun and be marching. I think everybody should just stay at home and think about themselves”, she said.

A worker, Mr. Asiedu noted that” I am not seeing the relevance of such a celebration because for what the big six, Nkrumah, fought for to be a self-governing country, to decide our own progress. We are in a country where almost everything we do we borrow to do it”.

The country was improving. Atta Mills tried but the rest are “bomb”. So it was improving then it started messing up and it has messed up. I am not celebrating Independence day. I will just sleep in my room. Am I supposed to go to Independence Square? I don’t have money to go there, I will just sleep”, Stephanie , a student added.

”With the 65th Independence Day, I wouldn’t be doing anything that much until the weekend. I am likely to go out on Monday”, Deborah noted.
