The Ghana Health Service, GHS, says it is uncomfortable with the alarming manner in which some media reported Thursday’s suspected case of Coronavirus (COVID-19) at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
The Service said reports that doctors at the nation’s premier hospital were in a state of fear and panic did not only put the country in a bad state but also undermined national efforts at preventing an outbreak and preventing its spread.
Head of Disease Surveillance Department at the GHS, Dr Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe, said the Service would investigate to find out persons behind such sensational reports.
He confirmed that Korle Bu has so far recorded two incidents of suspected cases of COVID-19, both of which have come to the attention of the public in an alarming manner.
Dr Asiedu-Bekoe said even in smaller hospitals when suspected cases are detected, it is handled without the knowledge of the public.
So far, Ghana has tested 46 suspected cases and they have all proven negative.
