The President of the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA), Andrew Danso-Aninkora Sunkwa-Mills, says the Association is still opposed to the arbitrary allocation of fees on the National DTT Platform by the Ministry of Communication and Digitization.

The Sector Minister, Usurla Owusu-Ekuful yesterday, December 11, 2023, warned that TV Stations will be taken off the platform from next year for non-payment of fees.

The cost of being hosted on the platform was fixed at 15 thousand dollars per month but was slashed to 10 thousand dollars.

However, GIBA believes the fees need Parliamentary approval under the Fees and Charges Act. It has subsequently filed a suit at the court to determine the legality of the Minister’s arbitrary action. He insists that at no stage has any broadcaster refused to pay fees and that they only demanded a breakdown of how the fee was arrived at.
