The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), in consultation with its media partners, has lifted the media boycott imposed on Member of Parliament (MP) for Yendi, Farouk Mahama, after he withdrew the lawsuit against the GJA and Citi FM, opting for an amicable settlement.
”After meeting as a coalition to assess the conciliatory gesture of the MP, the plea by the Minister of Information designate and her deputy designate and the positive feedback from the Management of Citi/FM, the GJA and its partners have decided to end the media boycott placed on Honourable Farouk Aliu Mahama, MP for Yendi. We, therefore, respectfully request all media organisations to take note and act accordingly, with effect from today, May 9, 2024, Mr. Dumfour noted.
Why Media black list of Marouk Mahama
The blackout was enforced following allegations that Farouk Mahama had assaulted Mohammed Aminu Alabira, the Northern Regional Correspondent of Citi FM/TV, during the NPP Parliamentary primaries on January 27, 2024.
At a media briefing in Accra, President of the GJA, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, called on Journalists to adhere to the lifting of the ban and comply accordingly.
Mr. Dwumfour expressed his disappointment in the NPP for the silence on assaults against Journalists in the country, urging authorities to release a Statement on investigations into Ahmed Suale’s death.
He further cautioned the Media to maintain professionalism in the upcoming elections.
