The Ghana Journalists Association GJA and Knutsford University College have signed an MOU to train Journalists in Advanced Programmes in Communications and Governance. The two institutions have informally collaborated in the past to build the capacity of at least 500 journalists in the country. President of the GJA Roland Affail Monney described the MOU as historic, between the association and a tertiary institution.
The signing of the MOU is to formalize already existing partnerships between the two institutions, dating back to 2016 when the GJA and Knutsford University begun collaborations to build the capacity of journalists in the country.
Each applicant will benefit from a free 12-week intensive programme which hitherto costs GHC3,500.
President of Knutsford University, Professor Anthony Ahiawodzi signed the MOU on behalf of the University while President of the GJA Roland Affail Monney initialed for the Association.
Prof Anthony Ahiawodzi explained the nature of the Programme.
“The programme is a capacity building programme meant to enhance the quality and competence of journalists so that they will be able to deliver more efficiently. And for the past 8 years when this programme has been running, patronage has been very good and we churn out 500 journalists from the programme”
President of the GJA Roland Affail Monney spoke about the uniqueness of the MOU.
“The MOU strikes a historic chord in the sense that it is the first of its kind between the GJA and a tertiary institution. It is also satisfactory in the sense that we have had some relationships with Knutsford under which journalists have been trained so this MOU has come to cement this fruitful relationship.”
The MOU between the two institutions will expire after 4 years. The courses in Advanced Programmes for Communication and Governance are expected to commence next week with lectures on Fridays at 5pm.
