In a landmark celebration, the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) is poised to commemorate its 75th anniversary, an event that will seamlessly blend with the distinguished 28th GJA Media Awards. The grand occasion is set to be held at the Accra Conference Centre on Saturday, September 28, 2024. This dual celebration not only acknowledges the rich history of the GJA but also aims to honor the stalwarts of Ghanaian journalism who have demonstrated leadership and excellence in the field.

The evening will be graced by the presence of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana, who will be the special guest of honor. His attendance underscores the national significance of the event and highlights the critical role journalism plays in the country’s democratic and developmental processes. Alongside the President, other eminent figures such as Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and John Dramani Mahama will also be in attendance, showcasing a rare gathering of Ghana’s top political minds.

The event promises to be a spectacular convergence of past, present, and future journalistic endeavors. It provides a platform to reflect on the evolution of journalism in Ghana from its nascent stages to its current status as a cornerstone of democracy and societal development. Attendees can expect a night filled with nostalgia, recognition, and aspirations for the future of the media landscape in Ghana.

A particularly notable aspect of the evening will be the presentation of awards to distinguished journalists and media houses that have made significant contributions to the profession. These awards serve as a testament to the relentless pursuit of truth and excellence by journalists across the nation. The acknowledgment of their efforts not only motivates current practitioners but also sets a high standard for upcoming journalists.

Honourable Fatimatu Abubakar, the Minister of Information, will also be present, symbolizing the government’s support and recognition of the indispensable role of the media. Her presence, along with other dignitaries, is expected to add a layer of gravitas to the proceedings, making the 75th anniversary of the GJA and the 28th GJA Media Awards a night to remember. This celebration is not just an event but a historic milestone that promises to inspire future generations of journalists.
