The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) is set to celebrate its 75th anniversary on August 15, 2024, with a significant event at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel. The milestone will be marked by a conference focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its impact on the future of journalism in Ghana. The highlight of the celebration will be a series of lectures on “AI and the Future of Journalism,” aimed at exploring how AI can influence the media landscape while preserving journalistic traditions.
The lectures will feature insights from experts such as Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku and Ethel Cofie, with Baaba Cofie chairing the session. The event will also be attended by notable figures, including the Minister of Information, Fatimatu Abubakar, and Omar Faruk Osman, President of the Federation of African Journalists (FAJ). Their participation emphasizes the importance of journalism in shaping both national and continental narratives.
A diverse group of dignitaries, including ministers, members of parliament, and media professionals, will join the celebration. The evening will also feature performances from the Ghana Police Band and Alabaster Box, making it a memorable occasion filled with reflection and entertainment.
The GJA’s 75th anniversary is more than a celebration of its longevity; it is a tribute to its vital role in Ghana’s history, especially during the fight for independence. As the association continues to champion press freedom and confront ongoing challenges, this anniversary symbolizes a renewed commitment to shaping the future of journalism for the next generation.
