GLOWA honours outgoing board members at 25th anniversary dinner

Global Action for Women Empowerment (GLOWA) has celebrated its 25th anniversary with a dinner and recognition night at the prestigious Volta Serene Hotel in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region. The event brought together outgoing and incoming board members, staff, friends, and the organization’s Founder, Nana Kugbeadzor-Bakateyi II, in a night filled with appreciation and reflection.

A key highlight of the evening was the recognition of six outgoing board members who have provided transformative leadership and unwavering support to GLOWA for over 14 years. The board members, who served between 2008 and 2024, were honoured with citations highlighting their dedication to empowering marginalized communities and driving positive change.

The outgoing board members honoured included Mrs. Charity Adzoa Calai-Kwawukumey, Board Chair, Ms. Evelyn Vuvor, Board Secretary, Mr. Carlos Mensah, Human Rights Advisor, Mr. Carl Tettey, Financial Advisor, Mr. Winfried Donkor, Member and Ms. Millicent Dzandu, Member.

In her address, the Executive Director of GLOWA, Mrs. Rosemond Atutornu, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the outgoing board members, and commended their selfless dedication and contributions to GLOWA’s mission of empowering women and marginalized communities.

“Over the years, your guidance and support have been instrumental in shaping GLOWA into the organization it is today. Your sacrifices, wisdom, and commitment to social justice have paved the way for countless women and girls to rise above adversity and achieve their dreams”, she said.

Mrs. Atutornu further described the outgoing board members as true champions of equality and empowerment and assured them that their legacies would continue to inspire the new board and the organization’s future initiatives.

She added, “Your efforts have not only impacted the lives of individuals but have also created ripple effects in communities across the region and beyond. We will forever hold you in high regard, and though your tenure has ended, you remain an integral part of the GLOWA family.”

The evening also marked the formal introduction of new board members who will carry forward GLOWA’s vision and mission. The new board is chaired by the Volta regional director of Department of Gender, Mrs Thywill Kpe.

The Founder of GLOWA, Nana Kugbeadzor-Bakateyi II, encouraged the new board to build on the strong foundation laid by their predecessors while exploring innovative ways to address emerging challenges in gender equality and social justice.

The event concluded with a dinner and networking session, as attendees celebrated GLOWA’s milestones and reaffirmed their commitment to creating a more equitable society.
