Government, with support from the World Bank has handed over 20,000 wheelchairs to Persons Living with Disabilities and the Health facilities.
This is to improve their mobility especially in the wake of COVID-19 and to enhance health care delivery. Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Vice President Mahamadu Bawumia reiterated government’s commitment to accelerate national development.
He, however, called for the support of all Ghanaians as government cannot do it all alone, especially in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Vice President said government is exploring opportunities to remove existing barriers in public buildings, educational systems, healthcare and in the job market to provide opportunities for all.
He used the occasion to appeal to motorists to drive cautiously on the roads in order to avoid needless accidents which also leave many others with disabilities.
